History
Considering all of the historic factors that have played a role in the evolution of business during the past century, it is rare to find a viable company around today that has survived most of those years. When the business is a small-town real estate company with plenty of competition, this kind of longevity is even more remarkable. New London Agency in it's 100 th year of operation, has not only survived, but prospered. Run by three generations of the same family for the past 58 years, the agency's history mirrors that of the New London/Lake Sunapee area.
New London Agency began in 1907. Its founder, Calvin Sargent operated the business as Sargent & Company from his residence on Main Street in New London. At the time, much of the area's real estate was divided into large parcels of farmland. However, the well-to-do in Boston, New York City and even as far away as Washington DC had discovered Lake Sunapee as a summer retreat. Families arrived by train to spend the entire summer, often with all of their household staff. Many stayed in the large resort hotels that dotted the Lake Sunapee shoreline, but a growing number rented or purchased cottages there or on other nearby lakes, as well as properties in the surrounding countryside.
In 1947 New London Agency was purchased by Seth and Millie Lamson. Operated in the 1970's and 1980's by their daughter and son-in-law Chan and Debbie Perkins along with Janis Wallace – the Perkins daughters, Pam and Stephanie worked along side them in the 1980's and 1990's. Pam and Stephanie took ownership of the firm in 1995. Continuing a strong tradition of “service first”, Pam and Stephanie have worked hard to insure New London Agency remains a leading sales force in the New London/Lake Sunapee market.
